Autism

So, what is Autism?

Autism is a developmental disability that impacts a suffer throughout their lives. It affects how they communicate with other people, their perceptions and understanding of other people and the world.

Autism can be referred to by different names (usually professionals) such as ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder) and is sometimes referred to as High-Functioning Autism. Asperger’s is a type of autism, and is on the spectrum, however with Asperger’s pupils aren’t impacted by speech delays and they don’t have any form of cognitive impairment.

Autism is not an illness, nor is it a disease, which means there is no cure.

There are a vast number of strategies that can be useful to people with autism and their families which can:

-reduce the anxiety and issues that you may face during day to day routines

– support a child in crisis

– provide support for the learning and achievement of the young person in education.
